Deep Red Bedroom Makeover: A Bold Vintage Transformation (Part One)

I’ve been reworking my daughter’s room — a space I had designed a while ago, but this time with a completely different mood in mind. What started as a simple refresh slowly turned into something much richer, deeper, and honestly… a lot more dramatic.
We’re leaning fully into a deep red monochromatic palette. Not just on the walls, but across the ceiling as well — and that decision alone changed everything. There’s something about committing to one color so completely that makes the room feel intentional, almost immersive. The red isn’t loud the way people usually expect. Instead, it feels warm, layered, and a little nostalgic — exactly the vintage vibe we were going for.
One of the biggest shifts in this makeover was removing the walk-in closet we had previously built. It served its purpose at the time, but it also took away from the openness of the room. This time, I wanted the furniture to do more of the storytelling. So instead, we brought in a rich wood vanity — and this is where my favorite part comes in.
I’m reusing and reworking pieces rather than starting from scratch.
There’s something incredibly satisfying about taking furniture that already exists — sometimes overlooked, sometimes outdated — and placing it in a completely new context. The vanity, with its deep wood tones, grounds the room beautifully against the red. It adds that old-world charm without feeling staged or forced. It feels lived-in, layered… like the room has a story rather than just a design.
That’s really the direction this space is taking. Less “perfect showroom,” more “collected over time.”

At this stage, the transformation is still in its foundation phase. The color has set the tone, the larger furniture pieces are in place, and you can already feel the shift in energy. But the real personality — the details, textures, and smaller elements — are still to come.
And that’s where it will all come together.
This is just Part One.
There’s a lot more layering, styling, and a few creative surprises coming next.
Stay tuned for Part Two.
