Not everything broken is meant to be thrown away — sometimes, it's just waiting for a glow-up.
I had this tall, 1-foot glass flower vase that had a crack down one side. It couldn’t hold water anymore, so fresh flowers were out — but I wasn’t ready to give up on it. Instead, I gave it a second life as a beautiful, textured decor piece with faux florals and a little creative flair.
The Makeover
I started by giving it a good clean, then rough-sanded the surface to prep it for paint. I still had some leftover Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black, and decided to give it a textured finish. I mixed the paint with baking soda to create a subtle ceramic-like texture and applied two thick coats.
Once it was dry, I gave it a touch of glam with Rub’n Buff in gold — brushing it lightly across the raised areas for a chic, antique vibe.
A Bonus Upcycle
Since I had some textured paint mix left over (and hate wasting good supplies!), I looked around and spotted an empty olive oil bottle in my recycling bin. Perfect shape, perfect opportunity. I gave it the same textured-black-and-gold treatment — and just like that, it was transformed into a matching mini vase. Now the pair sits side by side, looking like high-end decor from a boutique.
The Result
The transformation was honestly amazing. With just a few materials I already had on hand, a cracked vase and a used bottle turned into luxe, modern accent pieces. I finished the look with faux flowers from Amazon, and they’re now sitting pretty in my space — proof that even damaged or discarded items can have a dazzling second act.
