From Dull to Dazzling: My Luxe Console Table Transformation

When redesigning my dining room, I knew I needed a skinny console table to complete the space. Originally, I had planned to refinish a side table, but it turned out to be too deep for the area. That meant I had to come up with an alternative—cue the power of Jugaad!
How it all came together:
I already had a wood-toned console table from West Elm, but I wanted something with a more dramatic, refined look. This is where things got a little… controversial. Instead of sticking with the natural wood finish, I decided to go bold—I painted it black.
But I didn’t stop there. I had leftover decoupage paper and gold leaf from another project (a story for another day), and I saw an opportunity to give this piece a luxe, one-of-a-kind makeover. The mix of rich black, shimmering gold, and intricate patterns gave the table a completely new identity—elegant, modern, and a little bit glam.
To tie everything together, I paired the revamped console with a large canvas painting that I created myself. A few carefully chosen accessories from my own collection completed the styling, and just like that, the once-empty corner was transformed into a stunning focal point.
This project was the perfect reminder that you don’t need to buy new pieces to achieve a fresh, stylish look. Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity, some leftover materials, and a willingness to step outside the box.
What do you think—would you ever paint over a West Elm piece? Let’s chat in the comments!
