After completing my last wallpaper project, I had a bit of wallpaper left over, and I knew I didn’t want it to go to waste. There was a corner by the kitchen originally meant to be a pantry, but instead, it had become a catch-all space for miscellaneous items. With a built-in bench and an overhead cabinet already in place, I saw the potential for something much more functional—a dedicated appliance station!
The Plan
My goal was simple: turn this underutilized nook into a stylish and practical space for my kitchen appliances. This meant:
Adding the leftover wallpaper to bring visual interest.
Installing a floating shelf for additional storage and organization.
Using Retique It to match both the bench and the shelf for a cohesive look.
Sealing everything with Varathene topcoat for durability.
The Transformation Process
The first step was applying the wallpaper. Since I was working with leftover pieces, I had to carefully align them to create a seamless look. The pop of pattern immediately added character and tied the space to my previous project.
Next, I installed a floating shelf. This was key in making the space more functional, providing a dedicated area for appliances like my coffee maker and toaster.
To ensure a unified aesthetic, I used Retique It to match the existing bench and the new floating shelf. This made both surfaces blend effortlessly, giving the nook a polished and custom feel. The final touch was sealing everything with Varathene topcoat, adding durability and a professional finish.
The Final Look
Stepping back, I was amazed at how this once-forgotten corner now felt intentional and stylish. The wallpaper added warmth, the floating shelf created much-needed storage, and the cohesive finish tied everything together beautifully. My new appliance station not only looked great but also made my kitchen more efficient.
Lessons Learned
Leftover materials can go a long way – Don’t underestimate scraps from past projects!
Functionality is key – Creating a space with a purpose makes a huge difference.
Small changes, big impact – A simple floating shelf and a bit of wallpaper completely changed the look and usability of this space.
Final Thoughts
This project reinforced the idea that even small, overlooked corners of the home can be transformed into something beautiful and practical. If you have an unused space, think outside the box—you might just create your new favorite spot!
