You know that one awkward wall in your home that just begs to be filled with something special? That was the case for me—a blank stretch between my kitchen and the eat-in area that needed a touch of character and charm. I wanted something functional yet beautiful, and after tossing around ideas, a hutch seemed like the perfect solution.

I scoured all the usual places for the right piece—big-box stores, thrift shops, local sellers—but nothing quite clicked. So I turned to my old faithful: Facebook Marketplace. After a bit of scrolling, I spotted her. A solid wood hutch with beautiful curves, classic lines, and just the right size to (hopefully) fit the space. She had good bones, and I could see the potential immediately. The project had officially begun.

The transformation started with the usual—but satisfying—ritual: stripping off the old finish, giving the surface a thorough sanding, and prepping her for her new look. I’ve come to rely on Fusion Mineral Paint for many of my projects lately—it’s durable, rich, and always delivers. This time, I chose a deep, moody green called Pressed Fern. It’s earthy, elegant, and full of soul—exactly the vibe I wanted.

To add a bit of softness and surprise, I lined the interior with a floral wallpaper. The gentle print peeked through the open shelves and glass doors, creating a sweet contrast to the bold green exterior. It’s those little touches that really bring a piece to life, don’t you think?

For the finishing flourishes, I used gold gilding wax on the hardware, giving the knobs and pulls just the right amount of glam without going overboard. A few coats of clear polyurethane sealed everything in, and just like that—she was ready for her debut.

She turned out beautifully—classic, lush, and full of personality. But sometimes, even when the vision is clear and the execution is just right, things don’t quite work out. As much as I love this piece, she doesn’t quite fit the space like I’d hoped.

Fallen in love with this green beauty? She’s looking for a forever home! If you’re local and interested, feel free to reach out—I’d love for her to go to someone who’ll appreciate her charm as much as I do.
